Australia’s Newest Carrier Lands in the Sunshine State

Maroochydore, Wednesday 22 July 2020: A better connected South-East Queensland (SEQ) has arrived.

OneQode, Australia’s first carrier to deploy equipment and commence operations out of the Sunshine Coast Cable Landing Station (CLS), is now ready to launch its digital services from the Sunshine Coast direct to its Brisbane CBD Points of Presence (Equinix BR1 & NextDC B2). With the lowest latency path to East Asia from Brisbane, this network is set to provide unparalleled speed to all Queenslanders – ushering in a new era of internet connectivity.

Better connectivity for Queensland

Until now, all Queensland traffic has been required to route through Sydney data centres before leaving Australian shores – meaning high latency and infrastructure expense. By putting down roots at the new CLS, OneQode is severing the Sydney dependence and ensuring that Queensland has dedicated international routes.

These routes provide significant benefits for many sectors which depend on international networks including high-frequency share trading, esports and gaming. A more efficient route out of Australia will also make the internet better for users above the NSW Central Coast, particularly given the current post-COVID paradigm.

Built to provide a genuine broadband alternative and solve the ‘last mile’ problem once and for all, the CLS deployment is the precursor to a much wider rollout in the Sunshine Coast. By avoiding legacy copper, HFC, FTTN and FTTC deployments, OneQode’s independently-owned network will equip Sunshine Coast residents to participate in the digital economy of the future.

With the COVID pandemic changing how business is done and data needs increasing across the board, regional connectivity has never been more important. OneQode is making good on its commitment to bring better connectivity to regional Queensland by activating its first Digital Hub in Cooroy.

The Cooroy Hub will be based from a purpose-built data centre located in the Cooroy Arts and Learning Precinct. Noosa Council believe that the re-imagining of the Council-owned asset as a regional digital hub will provide many benefits to the community.

Noosa Council’s Economic Development Manager, Anthony Dow, has welcomed OneQode’s arrival in Cooroy.

“It will bring new connectivity options for the local community and importantly, their expanding investment in the region will see Noosa residents connected to the new international undersea cable landing station in Maroochydore.”

Better Connectivity, More Possibilities

OneQode is engineering the Digital Hub with several goals, which include providing better connectivity, more opportunities and growth for the Noosa hinterland region. From a practical standpoint, the deployment of a genuine edge data centre in the region will provide a number of key benefits.

First and foremost, the Digital Hub will connect Cooroy to the wider OneQode network – providing both high speed Australian connectivity and the fastest connection to Asia and beyond through the new international cable connection at Maroochydore. The Hub will also form the centre of a new, high-speed broadband network for the region. OneQode intends to offer a blend of business fibre (within Cooroy and surrounds) and fixed wireless services (for all surrounding areas), from the Hub itself and other assets in the area.

Finally, the Hub will provide businesses a secure data centre environment in which to deploy their equipment. This is relevant for both local businesses who want to operate their server infrastructure off-premises and those from other areas such as Brisbane who want non-metropolitan redundancy or disaster recovery options.

OneQode Launches Asia-Pacific Gaming Hub in Guam

Australian telecommunications startup OneQode has launched a world-first gaming hub on the island of Guam as a brand new, latency-neutral server location to connect hundreds of millions of gamers across the Asia-Pacific region.

Until now, because of unbalanced connection latencies between the major gaming hotspots, cross-border intra-regional gameplay has been out of reach for many of the region’s gamers. With Guam located at roughly equal distances from the major surrounding nations and connected via high-capacity undersea fibre, OneQode’s gaming hub creates a level playing field for the region.

The Guam gaming hub creates the possibility of new regional esports tournaments, in spite of travel restrictions. Gamers from most of the surrounding nations, including China, Japan, Australia, and the Philippines, will now be able to play on a more equal footing, without giving an unfair advantage to any one side, or requiring previously remote players to travel internationally.
